Rolls and yards
Guipure lace is wound onto rolls. Each roll holds a set length, quoted in yards (called gaz in Pakistan) or metres. One yard is 0.9144 metres. A quotation should state the length per roll for each size, because wider laces are often wound in shorter rolls.
Pieces
In the trade, one piece means one roll in one colour. When a supplier says MOQ 500 pieces, that means 500 rolls in total across the colours you choose. Mixed colours within a design are normally allowed.
Colour ranges
Designs are produced in colour ranges, for example 45 colours or 52 colours. A boutique often buys a full range (one or more rolls of every colour). A brand picks specific colours. Ask whether a colour is a stock shade or needs dyeing.
Comparing quotes
- Convert everything to price per yard or per metre before comparing
- Check width in millimetres, not by name, since medium can mean different widths at different mills
- Confirm what is included: packing, cargo or freight, documents
- Ask for the lead time on fresh production versus stock
